South Africa is a popular destination for sun seekers and safari lovers. The weather and climate in South Africa can change very quickly dependant on the time of year and also the altitude you are at.

The country is bordered on the west by the Atlantic Ocean and on the east by the Indian Ocean; their waters meet at Cape Agulhas, at the southernmost tip of the continent.

South Africa is a fairly dry country and has an average annual rainfall of about 456mm. Unlike in the UK, South Africa’s summer is from mid October to mid February and usually consists of hot, sunny weather often with tropical thunderstorms in the afternoon. Winter months from Mid Feb to Mid October are usually cooler but often dried than in the summer months. Western Cape, with its Mediterranean climate, is the exception, getting its rain in winter. If you are booking to go on holiday to South Africa, be sure to check the usual weather in your chosen location as it can differ drastically.
