Deciding what time of year to go on a safari can be vital if you are expecting to see certain wildlife or want certain weather conditions. The season in South Africa vary greatly from that of the UK so you do need to do your research prior to booking.

The main factors that affects the weather in South Africa is the altitude and the surrounding oceans. The east coast of South Africa is situated on the Indian ocean with has a warmer current whilst the west coast is situated on the Atlantic Ocean which has a lot colder current. The temperatures drop by about 6°C for every 1000m you climb meaning the higher you the colder it will be.

The summer season is generally October to April which is usually hot but has a lot of rainfall. South Africa winter season runs from May through to October and is cooler and dry – but still very warm compared to the winters we get in the UK.
